President Monson Mentions Another Temple in Utah Will Be Built

Bryce Haymond

President Monson has his own ward that he usually attends on Sundays, but occasionally he makes special visits to other wards in Utah, or wards throughout the world when he’s traveling.  Yesterday, President Monson visited a ward along the Wasatch Front in Utah and spoke in their sacrament meeting.  Some members got to shake his hand.

President Monson made mention of one particularly interesting detail:

“…a new temple south of Salt Lake, location still secret, but land is ready…”

I wonder where the new temple would go?  Any ideas?  Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.

I think there will be a new temple in Eagle Mountain

we need a mini Temple in Cornwall/Devon UK…..badly.

  • Angie Says:

Somewhere between Provo and Manti seems possible. Payson?

  • Eric Says:

Hey! I love your blog, by the way. Thanks for the sweet updates on our beloved prophet.

This ‘announcement’ isn’t new at all, tho:

“We have previously announced a new temple in the southeast quadrant of the Salt Lake Valley. We have two other excellent sites in the west and southwest areas of the valley through the kindness of the developers of these properties. The first one on which we will build is in the so-called Daybreak development, and this morning we make public announcement of that.” President Hinckley, Saturday October 1, 2005 General Conference

It’ll still be fun see where it is, however! :)

  • Laura Says:

Saratoga Springs where the Stake Center is on the hill and you can see the Salt Lake Valley, Utah Lake and the Mt. Tip Temple.

  • Todd Says:

Eric – that Daybreak area temple would be referring the recently opened Oquirrh Mountain temple.

He didn’t say how far south of Salt Lake it would be. Maybe Cedar City?

  • Russ Says:

    Ceder City, Price or Nephi.

  • Jake Says:

My guess is the Spanish Fork/Payson area or somewhere in Cedar City!

The St. George Temple is usually busy, and I know people as far away as Beaver have an almost two hour drive to the Temple. But then if they took everyone from the Cedar City area and north from the St. George Temple District that big Temple would seem very empty.

Someone mentioned Price as a possible location, and I know they have almost a 2 1/2 hour drive to the Manti Temple, but members from Fillmore have almost that long of a drive to Manti also. So maybe it will be somewhere in the Manti Temple District. But just like the St. George Temple it is huge, and will seem empty if we take may people from it’s district. So I really think the new Temple will be somewhere in southern part of Utah County.

  • Todd Says:

Sorry Eric, but I didn’t read your post carefully enough. Bill’s link helped to clarify it for me. So it looks like besides Oquirrh Mountain, there is an another site purchased on the west side of the valley.

  • Jake Says:

Well everyone who guessed the southern part of Utah County was right! It’s going to be in Payson.

  • Angie Says:

I guessed Payson on December 31st. My home town!
